MILWAUKEE -- Chase Anderson struggled with his command, and St. Louis capitalized.Anderson lasted just four innings, and the Milwaukee Brewers had four hits in an 8-1 loss to Carlos Martinez and the Cardinals. They make you battle, Anderson said. Walking five guys against them last time and this time is obviously not what I want to do.Anderson (4-10) threw 94 pitches while allowing two runs and four hits. The right-hander dropped to 0-4 with a 10.43 ERA in his last four starts.Actually, I thought he pitched pretty well and made big pitches when he had to, Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell said. The pitches just added up real fast.Jhonny Peralta, Tommy Pham and Aledmys Diaz homered for St. Louis, helping Carlos Martinez to his first win since June 11.Peralta hit a leadoff drive in the second. Pham connected for a solo shot and Diaz belted a three-run homer during the Cardinals five-run ninth.Martinez (8-6) struck out a season-high 11 in five innings. The right-hander allowed one run and four hits with four walks. We did a good job getting his pitch (count) up. He only lasted five innings, which you have to consider a success, Counsell said.Kirk Nieuwenhuis hit an RBI single in the third for Milwaukees only run. The Brewers stole three bases in the inning but left the bases loaded.Tyler Lyons relieved Martinez and pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings. Matt Bowman got two outs and Seth Maness worked the ninth.Stephen Piscotty had two hits and scored two runs for St. Louis, and Jedd Gyorko singled in Yadier Molina in the eighth. Alberto Rosario drove in the Cardinals final run with his first career hit.BEE DELAYThe start of the game was delayed nearly 10 minutes while Milwaukees grounds crew attempted to control a swarm of bees that gathered in the corner of the right-field fence.Piscotty was the right fielder for the Cardinals, and Matheny said he asked him if he was allergic. Then youve got a major issue, Matheny said. Thats deathly. I wouldnt have started the game until they figured it out. But he was all right with it, so the show goes on.AFTER FURTHER REVIEWAn apparent inning-ending double play turned by the Brewers in the third was overturned after a review, which showed second baseman Scooter Gennett did not get his foot on the bag at second. When play resumed, Molina drew a walk before Anderson struck out Gyorko. Anderson had to throw 11 additional pitches as a result of the ruling.Youre thinking about catching the ball, throwing the ball and getting out of the way of the guy coming in, Gennett said. Those are things we have to adjust to with the way the game is evolving.STOP THIEFBrewers shortstop Jonathan Villa swiped second and third in the third inning, giving him 31 stolen bases for the season, tops in the major leagues. The Brewers stole four bases overall, marking the fourth time this season they have stolen four or more bases in a game.OFF DAYBrewers catcher Jonathan Lucroy was out of the starting lineup for routine rest. Counsell said Lucroy would start on Sunday.UP NEXTCardinals: Mike Leake (5-7, 4.33 ERA) gets the ball in the series finale on Sunday. He is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in two starts against the Brewers this season.Brewers: Junior Guerra (6-1, 2.93 ERA) has won his last three starts, posting a 0.81 ERA. Wil Trapp Jersey . JOHNS, N.LAS VEGAS -- I wanted to believe Jon Jones. When we sat down in Los Angeles last week to talk about his life and career heading into UFC 200, he was like a movie producer scripting out his improbable comeback story and the happy ending that was awaiting him around the corner.I want to show the world that you can be down but never out, Jones told me. I want to be a story where someone risked losing so much but ultimately turned everything around. A lot of times you hear these stories about athletes who ruined their career and they go away and no one knows what happened to them, or theyre bankrupt or they end up in jail. They just ruined a great career. I want to be one of the few stories you hear where I was ruining things but ultimately turned things around and became a hero. Thats my vision for the way my story is going to play out.Like most scripts in Hollywood, however, it became apparent Wednesday night that Jones comeback story was nothing more than a facade -- a fictional tale that would never play out the way he had envisioned it.Jones was pulled from his UFC light heavyweight championship fight against Daniel Cormier, the main event of Saturdays UFC 200, after the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency informed Jones of a potential doping violation Wednesday night. On Thursday morning, an emotional Jones apologized for the incident at a news conference.I want to apologize; I really dont know what to say, Jones said. Im really sorry about this happening.Jones wiped away tears during the news conference, leaving after five minutes to compose himself before returning to a dais that was stripped of any UFC signage before the news conference began. The whole situation really sucks, Jones said. It really sucks, really hurts a lot. They supposedly found something in one of my samples that I have no clue what it is. I dont even know how to pronounce it. Ive been taking the same supplements for the majority of my career. Ive been so outspoken about being against any type of performance enhancers. Im still to this day extremely against performance enhancers. The whole thing sucks. Being labeled as someone who would cheat hurts me more than anything else Ive ever been through in my career.Although this is the first time Jones has tested positive for a performance-enhancing drug, he did test positive for traces of cocaine prior to a fight against Cormier at UFC 182 last year. Jones, who turns 29 later this month, could face a two-year ban as a first-time offender under the anti-dopingg program.ddddddddddddIf I do have to sit out two years, I will definitely be back, Jones said. Im already thinking about the good that can happen. Im optimistic. But man, at the end of the day, Im a fighter. Im a fighter. Even though I may seem broken up here, Im not broken. Im just really upset. For all of the people who believed in me, continue to believe in me, because this story isnt over and the best is yet to come.It was hard to hear Jones talk about a reboot of his comeback story on Thursday and not be incredulous. As much as wed like to see a happy ending to this comeback story, the warning signs wont stop popping up.Jones, who has won 13 straight fights since 2010, has a pristine record inside the Octagon. If his career ended today, he would go down as one of the greatest pound-for-pound fighters in UFC history, but his biggest opponent has consistently been himself. No one has done more damage to Jon Jones during his career than Jon Jones. The only reason he was even talking about a comeback story heading into UFC 200 was because he was involved in a hit-and-run accident in New Mexico that led to him being sentenced to 18 months of supervised probation and forced the UFC to strip him of his light heavyweight title. He talked about his changed ways after being reinstated, only to be arrested and booked for violating his probation in an alleged drag racing incident.Jones denied drag racing at the time, and he denied taking any performance-enhancing drugs on Thursday, but he has lost the benefit of the doubt with the public. The mistakes or accidents we could once chalk up to misunderstandings or aberrations no longer apply. Jones missteps are starting to frame a legacy that he always wanted to be defined by his record in the Octagon, not outside it.Ive always thought about my legacy, Jones told me last week. I had always envisioned going down as the greatest of all time and thats never left my sights. Im very conscious of my legacy and how Ill be remembered down the road. I also realize now how you live your life outside the sport is important to your legacy, and Im trying hard to do things right from here on out. Im in the fight of my life for my legacy inside and outside of the Octagon. Its a fight that became significantly harder on Wednesday, against an opponent Jones has proved he has had a hard time dealing with -- himself.
